Additional information

How to use the audible frequency test

Choose a frequency with the quick buttons or adjust it manually with the − and + buttons. You can also type a value in hertz.

The Play button starts the selected frequency. The sound is generated directly in the browser.

Quick tests

The quick buttons provide common test frequencies: 125 Hz, 250 Hz, 500 Hz, 1 kHz, 2 kHz, 4 kHz, 8 kHz, 12 kHz, and 16 kHz.

They make it easy to move from low frequencies to midrange or high frequencies without typing each value manually.

What is this test used for?

This test lets you quickly check whether a frequency is audible with your equipment: headphones, speakers, phone, computer, or audio output.

It can also help identify a frequency that sounds very weak, is too high to be heard on a device, or is poorly reproduced by headphones or speakers.

This is not a medical test

The tool does not replace a hearing test performed by a professional. The result depends on volume, audio equipment, browser, sound environment, and each person’s hearing.

Use a moderate volume, especially with high frequencies. A frequency may be inaudible because of the equipment, not necessarily because of hearing.

Tool limits

The frequency can be set between 20 Hz and 20,000 Hz, which roughly covers the human audible range. Actual perception varies greatly between people and devices.

The tool is intentionally simple: sine frequency, adjustable volume, direct playback, and no external audio files.

Test or frequency generator?

The audible frequency test is designed to quickly switch between several check frequencies. To generate a precise frequency and create a WAV file, use the frequency generator instead.

Data and privacy

The sound is generated directly in the browser. The selected frequency and volume are not sent to the server to use the tool.
