Additional information
How to read letter frequency
Letter frequency shows which letters appear most often in a text. The tool counts A-Z letters, automatically turns accented letters into plain letters, and ignores spaces, numbers and punctuation.
Occurrences
The occurrence column shows how many times each letter appears in the analyzed text. The final row gives the total number of counted letters.
Percentage
The frequency compares each letter with the total. If E appears 12 times in 100 letters, its frequency is 12%.
Normalized accents
É, È, Ê or Ë are counted as E. À becomes A, Ç becomes C. This keeps the analysis on the standard A-Z alphabet.
What is it useful for?
| Use | What the table helps reveal | Concrete example |
|---|---|---|
| Text analysis | Dominant and rare letters. | Compare two texts or notice a letter that appears unusually often in a clue. |
| Puzzles | Repetitions that may become hints. | A text where one letter appears far too often may hide a pattern. |
| Cryptograms | A first step for frequency analysis. | In a simple substitution, the most frequent symbol may stand for E, T, A or O depending on context. |
