Calculate an exact age
This tool calculates a precise age from a birth date. The result is shown in years, months and days, which is easier to read than a simple total number of days.
The reference date lets you calculate the age today, but also on another date. This can be useful for checking an age on a past date or a future date.
How to use the tool
Enter the birth date, then choose the reference date. By default, the reference date is set to today.
The calculation updates automatically whenever a date changes. The Today button quickly resets the reference date to the current day.
What the result shows
The main result shows the exact age in years, months and days. The details also show the total number of days, the next birthday and the number of days remaining until that birthday.
The calculation uses the real calendar: different month lengths, leap years and special dates such as February 29.
Invalid or future dates
A birth date in the future is not accepted, because it does not represent a real age.
If the birth date is later than the reference date, the tool shows an error message: it is not possible to have an age before the birth date.
