Additional information

Check a leap year

This tool lets you quickly check whether a year is a leap year. Enter a year, or use the Current year button to fill the field automatically.

The result updates automatically whenever the year changes. There is no calculate button to press.

List leap years in an interval

Year interval mode lets you enter a start year and an end year. The tool then lists all leap years included in that interval.

If the two bounds are reversed, the calculation still works: the tool shows the result for the absolute interval and clearly indicates the inversion.

Rule used

A year is a leap year if it is divisible by 4, except years divisible by 100, unless they are also divisible by 400.

For example, 2000 is a leap year, but 1900 is not. This rule matches the Gregorian calendar.

Display limit

To keep the page readable, the interval is limited to 500 years. This limit only affects the display of the list of found years.

To analyze a longer period, split it into several shorter intervals.
