Calculate quarters between two dates
This tool measures the gap between two dates in quarters. The main result shows full quarters, then the remaining months and days.
The calculation updates automatically whenever a date changes. There is no calculate button to press.
How to read the result
The main result can be shown as something like “5 quarters and 2 months and 21 days”. This makes long durations easier to understand without relying only on a total number of days.
The details also show the exact total in days, an approximate decimal quarter value and the order of the selected dates.
Full quarters and the real calendar
A quarter is equal to three full months. The calculation respects the real calendar: month lengths are taken into account, including shorter months and leap years.
The result in quarters, months and days is therefore more precise than simply dividing the number of days by an average duration.
Approximate decimal quarters
The decimal quarter value is an approximation based on the average length of a quarter. It is mainly useful as a rough estimate.
For a calendar-accurate reading, prefer the main result in full quarters, remaining months and remaining days.
Reversed dates
If the end date is earlier than the start date, the tool still shows the absolute gap between the two dates, but it clearly indicates that the dates are reversed.
This makes it easy to spot an input mistake without blocking the calculation.
