How to use the tap tempo tool
Tap the button several times in time with the song or musical idea you want to measure. After a few taps, the tool automatically estimates the tempo in BPM.
The more regular your taps are, the more reliable the estimate becomes. If you stop tapping for a few seconds, the measurement resets automatically so you can start a clean new estimate.
What is tap tempo used for?
Tap tempo is useful for quickly finding the BPM of a song, loop, rhythm, or musical idea. It can help you prepare a rehearsal, set a metronome, adjust music software, or note a tempo indication.
The tool analyses a range from 30 to 300 BPM. Values that are too slow or too fast are therefore excluded to avoid results that are not very useful.
Understanding tempo markings
Tempo markings such as largo, andante, allegro, or presto give a general idea of musical speed. They do not always replace a precise BPM value, but they help describe the character of the tempo.
In this tool, the ranges are: largo from 30 to 59 BPM, larghetto from 60 to 65 BPM, adagio from 66 to 75 BPM, andante from 76 to 107 BPM, moderato from 108 to 119 BPM, allegro from 120 to 167 BPM, presto from 168 to 199 BPM, and prestissimo from 200 to 300 BPM.
Tap tempo or metronome?
Tap tempo is used to measure a tempo by tapping the pulse. A metronome is used to produce a steady pulse for playing or practising.
If you already know the BPM you want to use, the classic metronome is more suitable. If you want to find the BPM of a song or rhythm you hear, tap tempo is the right tool.
