Play 2048 on a 4 × 4 grid. Move tiles with the keyboard arrows or touch buttons, merge matching values, increase your score, and try to reach the 2048 tile.

Use the arrow keys, touch gestures, or the buttons to move the tiles.

Quick explanation

Move the tiles using the keyboard arrows, a swipe on the grid, or the touch buttons. All tiles slide in the chosen direction, and matching values merge in pairs.

After each valid move, a new 2 or 4 tile appears. The goal is to reach 2048, but you can keep playing afterwards to aim for a higher score. The game ends only when no move or merge is still possible.

Additional information

How to play 2048?

Use the keyboard arrows, a swipe on the grid, or the touch buttons to move all tiles up, down, left, or right.

When two tiles with the same value meet, they merge into a new tile with double the value.

What is the goal?

The main goal is to create a 2048 tile.

Once 2048 is reached, the game can continue. You can keep playing to create higher values and improve your score.

Moves and merges

With each valid move, the tiles slide in the chosen direction. Matching tiles merge in pairs, then a new tile appears on an empty cell.

A tile created by a merge cannot merge again during the same move. For example, a row with 2, 2, 2, 2 moved to the left becomes 4, 4.

Score and best score

Each merge adds the value of the new tile to your score. Merging two 16 tiles therefore adds 32 points.

The best score can be stored locally in your browser so it remains available on a future visit.

Controls on desktop and mobile

On desktop, you can play with the keyboard arrows or by swiping with the mouse on the grid.

On smartphones and tablets, you can swipe on the grid or use the touch buttons placed below the board.

New game and undo

The “New game” button resets the grid and starts a new game with two tiles.

The “Undo” button lets you return to the last valid move. It is useful for correcting a recent mistake, but it is not a full move history.

End of the game

The game ends when the grid is full and no horizontal or vertical merge is still possible.

A full grid does not always mean the game is lost: if two adjacent tiles have the same value, a move is still possible.

Strategy tip

Try to keep your highest tile in a corner and group high values around it.

Avoid unnecessary moves in the opposite direction, as they can scatter important tiles and make future merges harder.

Data and privacy

The game runs directly in your browser. Moves, merges, the current score, and tile generation are not sent to a server.

Only the best score may be stored locally on your device, if your browser allows it.
