Hangman
Guess the word before you run out of tries.
Play Hangman directly in your browser. Guess letters with the virtual or physical keyboard, reveal every matching occurrence, and find the word before reaching six mistakes.
Quick explanation
Choose a word length, or let the game pick a random word, then guess the hidden word one letter at a time.
Each wrong letter adds one mistake to the hangman drawing. You win if you find the word before the sixth mistake.

Additional information
How to play Hangman?
The goal is to guess the hidden word before reaching the maximum number of mistakes.
Choose a letter with the on-screen keyboard or use your physical keyboard. If the letter is in the word, it appears in all matching positions.
Word length
You can choose a specific word length, such as 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8 letters.
The “Random” option selects a word from the full available dictionary. The “9+” option groups words with nine letters or more.
Dictionary used
The game uses a dictionary that matches the page language: a French dictionary for the FR version and an English dictionary for the EN version.
The English version currently uses a dictionary of around 1,000 words, distributed by length to offer varied games.
The words are loaded from a separate file, which makes it easy to edit or expand the dictionary later.
Letters and guesses
Each letter can only be tried once during a game.
Correct letters are revealed in the hidden word, while incorrect letters are added to the list of tried letters and count as mistakes.
Mistakes and hangman drawing
Each incorrect letter adds one mistake and progresses the hangman drawing.
The game is lost after six mistakes. The full word is then revealed so you can discover it.
New game and give up
The “New game” button starts a new word with the selected options.
During a game, you can give up to reveal the solution and start again with another word.
Gameplay tip
Start by trying common vowels, then frequent consonants.
Use the word length and the position of revealed letters to gradually narrow down the remaining possibilities.
Data and privacy
The game runs directly in your browser. The selected word, tried letters, and game result are not sent to a server.
