Column transposition

Transpose text with an oriented grid.

Codes

Paste text, choose a grid format and a starting corner. The text fills the grid column by column from that corner, then the text result reads the grid from left to right and from top to bottom.

Quick explanation

The tool keeps the text as entered: spaces, digits, punctuation and line breaks remain. The Start setting changes the corner and direction used to fill columns. Text mode then applies a fixed reading path, from left to right and from top to bottom.

Additional information

How to use column transposition

Paste source text, choose an automatic format, then select the starting corner. The tool places the text into an oriented grid by filling it column by column: depending on the selected start, filling begins from the top left, top right, bottom left or bottom right.

The text result does not change its reading direction according to that start. Once the grid is filled, it always reads cells from left to right, then from top to bottom. The Start setting therefore changes the starting grid, not the final reading path directly.

Automatic formats

Dimensions are suggested according to the text length. The goal is to get a readable grid without unnecessary manual settings.

Grid start

The selected corner defines where column filling begins. It changes character positions in the grid and therefore the text obtained after reading.

Result reading

Text mode reads the grid from left to right, row by row, starting from the top. Grid mode is mainly useful for visual inspection and printing.

FormatDefines the number of columns and rows.Try several formats if a reading does not produce anything readable.
StartSets the starting corner used to fill the grid column by column. The same text can produce four different layouts depending on the selected corner.
Empty cellsControls unused cells at the end of the grid.Keep them to inspect the grid; ignore them to get a more compact text.
